An unexpected spring shower

--17 April 2016 --

Brussels & around

Yesterday, we got caught in Woluve Park by heavy rain. It was so unexpected. One minute the sun was shining through the juicy green leaves of the old chestnut trees and the next the sky opened and it started to pour and hail... (Read more)

Hello Spring!

--12 April 2016 --

Brussels & around

After a difficult week Steve and I (and Basile :) ) longed for a quiet walk in nature. So, last Saturday we took a tram to Tervuren. We crossed the beautiful park that surrounds the famous Museum for Central Africa and left through a gate that took us directly to Zoniënwoud / Forêt de Soignes. (Read more)

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

-- 31 March 2016 --

Books I love

I couldn't put this book down. I read it in three evenings. Written with wit and empathy, The Help provides an insight into the life of a small town in the South of the USA and the relationships between domestic help and their employers. As the story is set in the 1960s during the peak of racial segregation, these relationships are often marked by inequality, indifference, even cruelty... (read more)

Road trip in Arizona

-- 05 March 2016 --

Travel

February may not seem like an obvious time to hit the road. But Steve and I were attending a wedding in the US and since we would be already crossing half of the globe, why not stay longer and explore, right?

We spent two weeks travelling across Arizona, we also popped over to Utah and Nevada for a couple of days. It was amazing. We have seen so many beautiful places and brought back so many great memories, too many to record all of them here. So here is the account of just a couple of highlights of our trip... One year with Basile

-- 02 November 2015 --

One year ago a colleague of mine brought two puppies from a dog shelter in Italy. One of them was for me. I named her Basile. She was so small and cute. Very social and keen to make friends with all dogs in our neighborhood, even those that were five times her size. Looking back at one year we spent together, I can say that bringing up a puppy is hard work and it can be frustrating. Coming home to discover that Basile destroyed her brand new bed AGAIN was not fun. But having a dog around brings so much joy and once you teach them how to behave in different situations it is so rewarding. Plus, there are plenty of scientific studies that suggest that dogs improve the quality of life of their owners. I can confirm that Basile definitely changed my life. Here's how... (Read more)

Last Sunday we went for a walk to the wood of Houssière (bois de la Houssière). The train from Brussels to Braine-le-Comte takes only half an hour.
